Not only is Blago somewhat out of the mainstream, h's also about as defiant as anyone can be. Gov. Blagojevich took it to his detractors with an "in your face" appointment to the Senate seat being vacated by Barack Obama. Not only is he not stepping down, but he's pressing in and onward. Try and stop me is his challeng. True Illinois politics and then some maybe.

Gov. Blagojevich today is expected to name former state Comptroller and Attorney General Roland Burris to Illinois' vacant U.S. Senate seat. It's just rumor as I write this; however, it could be fact very soon. Fact in that Blago is doing it, but will the powers that be allow it to stand- even if he was appointing the archangel Michael. Isn't this a matter of who wields the power?

Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White said he intends to block Gov. Blagojevich's appointment of Roland Burris as U.S. Senator. As secretary of state, White must certify the appointment and said in a statement he will not do so. "I have previously stated publicly I cannot cosign a document that certified any appointment by Rod Blagojevich for the vacant United States Senate seat in Illinois. Although I have respect for former Attorney General Roland Burris, because of the current cloud of controversy surrounding the governor, I cannot accept the document," White said.

Well duh! And who can?

Former Illinois Attorney General Roland Burris, 71, had lobbied the governor for the position in recent weeks. Burris made a previous attempt at the Senate seat in the past- unsuccessfully. In 1984, he was beat out for the Democratic nomination by Paul Simon. The governor hadn't discussed the decision with his lawyers, his attorney, Ed Genson said. Why would Blago think he needs the approval of anyone? His psyche doesn't allow for such thoughts. "I have nothing to do with what¹s going on. I haven't talked with him about it," Blagojevich's attorney, Ed Genson said. "I don¹t involve myself in political matters."

And the soap opera continues.
